Discover the 10 Powerful Impacts of Making a Climate Change Donation to a Community-Based Tree Planting Charity!
Who are the best climate change charities and how can you have the most meaningful impact when contributing to this multi-layered global challenge with an environmental or climate change donation?
The answer may to some extent be subjective and determined by personal goals, be it a desire to support forest conservation by contributing to a tree planting charity, or a goal to offset travel-related emissions for the family or your own carbon footprint for a full year!
But what if a very affordable climate change donation to one of the best climate change charities in the US could simultaneously address all the above objectives through a holistic solution and a proven strategy? Better still, what if by making the planet-friendly act of a donation to a tree planting charity, you could help tackle TEN of the most important humanitarian and environmental challenges of our time and also choose the specific level of impact you would like to make! Be it $20 to plant 45 trees or $20 a month to plant 600 trees in a year (which will offset a year of CO2 emissions for an average US resident), this is exactly what you can accomplish by making a donation to the ReWrite Our Story program, which is centered around two community-based “Recruit & Restore” projects in Northwestern Madagascar and on the shores of Lake Tanganyika in Western Tanzania.
10 Ways a Climate Change Donation to a Tree Planting Charity Impacts the Effects of Extreme Poverty Today & Climate Change Tomorrow:
Relieve Poverty
A tree planting donation of just $20 creates a full day of fair wage employment for villagers living in extreme poverty (in fact, subsisting on less than $2.15 a day) and will plant 45 trees at either of the two sites we support in Africa. Similarly, $20 a month will create two weeks of work and income benefits and also plant 600 trees at these “Recruit & Restore” locations.
Sequester CO2 Efficiently
Trees planted in tropical regions generally sequester more CO2 than those planted in other locations. And since they grow faster than in other regions, they also release more biomass into the soil, thus sequestering even higher-than-average volumes of CO2. In fact, based on carbon modeling reports taken from our locations, the 45 trees planted through a modest $20 donation will draw down around 1 metric ton of CO2 during a typical maturation period.
Draw Down a Full Year of Emitted CO2
Efficient sequestration at tree planting locations becomes doubly relevant if you have a goal of offsetting your carbon footprint. The same carbon modeling confirmed that the 600 trees that are planted as a result of donating $20 a month will remove around 14 metric tons of CO2 from the air during a typical maturation period. This volume of sequestration is greater than the total amount of CO2 emitted by an average US resident in 2025 (13.5 metric tons)!

Restore Nature
There is currently an alarming rate of tropical primary-forest loss taking place in affected geographies — actually, 3.7 million-hectares annually. This is equivalent to losing almost 10 football fields of forest every minute. In fact, it’s no surprise that tree planting and forest conservation programs have now become critical priorities, especially when last year the world lost 10 million hectares of forest coverage.
Protect Biodiversity
Forests are home to more than 80% of all terrestrial species of animals, plants, and insects. In addition, the forests that we support in Madagascar and Tanzania are critical biodiversity hotspots that are also home to an exceptionally diverse range of endemic and threatened plant and animal species.

Build Climate Resilience
Restoring vital ecosystems in Africa also helps to protect vulnerable coastal locations from the worst impacts of land erosion and extreme weather events, such as hurricanes and floods. In addition, donating to a tree planting charity or conservation nonprofit promotes the restoration of once-productive fisheries that are so vital for these communities.

Recognize Climate Justice
The entire continent of Africa, home to many of the world’s poorest populations, has only been responsible for 3% of total global emissions. Our project locations — Madagascar and Tanzania — are considered among the countries that are most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
Support a More Sustainable Future
YOU can make a number of practical household changes that can deliver 25% of the emissions reductions needed to stay below 1.5C! That’s why all of our donors also receive a free, one-year subscription to a monthly series, “Sustainable Solutions,” that outlines all the latest available low-carbon lifestyle choices.
Impact 12 of the 2030 Global Goals
In all, your support will make a truly meaningful contribution to 12 of the 2030 Global Goals for future prosperity. Starting with No Poverty (SDG #1) all the way to Life on Land (SDG #15), our educational series will also share specific insights to actually show you how your support helps create this great progress!
Accelerate 4-in-1 Climate Action
Taken as a whole, your support of tree planting charity represents a 4-pronged climate change action plan, which promotes climate justice and carbon sequestration, plus climate adaptation and mitigation. Even better, you’ll be leading the way by exemplifying the collective change we all must ultimately make if we’re to meet the challenges of our time!
