See How Donating to Offset Your Carbon Footprint Can Also Impact 10 of Today’s Top Global Challenges!
The ReWrite Our Story program enables you to make a meaningful social and environmental difference for our world today. It does so by creating work and income benefits for vulnerable communities in Africa through large-scale tree planting and long-term forest conservation. As well as providing vital support for families in extreme poverty and advancing climate change action, the program also provides you with the ability to use a donation to reduce or completely offset your carbon footprint, using the known sequestration levels of mangroves and ficuses at Recruit & Restore locations in Madagascar and Tanzania established in 2012.
In fact, donating just $20 a month to the Climate Positive Carbon Footprint Offset Plan will not only offset your CO2 emissions but also impact 10 of the world’s most pressing global challenges! Read on to learn more about a multi-level climate action and carbon offset plan that is widely viewed as one of the most trusted and affordable ways to reduce or fully offset your carbon footprint.

Become Climate Positive today for $20/month by joining the Carbon Footprint Offset Plan
The ReWrite Our Story program enables you to become part of a multi-pronged climate action plan and to select the level of positive impact that you would like to create for people and planet in a very transparent manner! Every $20 donated will be used to:
- Create one day of work and income benefits for people in living extreme poverty in Africa
- Plant 45 mangroves or ficuses at the project sites we support in Madagascar or Tanzania
- Remove an estimated 1 metric ton of CO2 in the course of an average maturation period
- Keep you informed on all the keys to a carbon-sensitive lifestyle through the monthly modules of our carbon-literacy certified series, Sustainable Solutions.
Also, if you choose to adopt the Climate Positive Carbon Footprint Offset Plan by contributing $20 a month/$240 a year, Purpose on the Planet will plant an additional 60 trees for you, so that you can become Climate Positive as a result of planting 600 trees and removing more CO2 from the air during maturation than is emitted by the average US citizen! In addition, as shown below, you will be also be supporting 10 of the world’s most pressing challenges!
The Climate Positive Carbon Footprint Offset Plan
HOW TO ECONOMICALLY OFFSET YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT THROUGH A CHARITABLE DONATION
The latest State of Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) report finds that 7-9 billion metric tons of CO2 per year will need to be removed from the air by mid-century if we are to meet the 1.5°C target. Right now, only 2 billion tons of CO2 a year are being removed, mainly through nature-based solutions. As shown on the accompanying chart, the report also reconfirmed that tree planting projects are still by far the most cost-effective, incremental means for voluntary or verified carbon removal.
The Climate Positive Carbon Footprint Offset Plan is one of the most impactful and cost-efficient ways to offset your carbon footprint through a charitable donation. It draws on the same ReWrite Our Story framework above, so every $20 donated will still create one day of work and fair income to plant 45 mangroves or ficuses on your behalf in Madagascar or Tanzania, where the project locations we support have been improving livelihoods for vulnerable, indigenous communities since 2012. However, if you choose to contribute a minimum of $20 a month for a year (or a one-time donation of $240), Purpose on the Planet will also plant an additional 5 trees every month on your behalf, so that an extra 60 trees will result in a total of 600 trees and enable you to be Climate Positive across the year. Here’s how it works…
While various factors affect carbon sequestration levels, the Climate Positive Plan leverages the fact that trees planted in tropical or subtropical regions generally sequester more CO2 than those planted in other regions, and also that mangroves and coastal wetlands may sequester carbon at a rate ten times greater than terrestrial forests. As a result. according to Quantified Carbon Modeling Reports and historical data from our project locations, planting 600 trees will not only create 2 weeks of work and income for local villagers but also remove more CO2 from the air during a typical maturation period than the 2026 per capita CO2 emissions of an average US resident.
In summary, your digital Climate Positive confirmation will reflect your carbon negative status for the year, based on offsetting around 14 metric tons of CO2, which is higher than the current US per capita average of 13.5 tons of CO2 emissions (as calculated here for 2026 by Statista). Just as importantly, you’ll be impacting 10 of the world’s most urgent global challenges, as shown below and also outlined in our interactive Playbook for the Climate Positive Carbon Footprint Offset Plan.

Donate to offset your carbon footprint and directly support these TEN priorities in the world’s most urgent areas of need!
1. Relieve Poverty: By planting 600 trees at a Recruit & Restore project location, you will create 2 weeks of work and income benefits for villagers living in extreme poverty (defined as living off less than $2.15 a day).
2. Recognize Climate Justice: Madagascar and Tanzania are considered to be among the countries most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. The entire continent of Africa, home to many of the world’s poorest populations, has only been responsible for 3% of total global emissions.
3. Reduce Hunger & Food Insecurity: In addition to direct income benefits, agroforestry — the planting of fruit-bearing trees — is supporting food security in Tanzania, and mangrove reforestation is reversing the decline in crab habitats in coastal mangroves in Madagascar.
4. Increase Access to Clean Water: Planting the right trees in the right places secures soil on slopes to keep it out of the Malagarasi river that people rely on for household water needs in Tanzania. Similarly, in Madagascar, the drilling of fresh-water wells is crucial for planting projects and also provides easier access to clean water for the local community.
5. Restore Nature & Conserve Forests: Tree planting, landscape restoration and forest conservation programs are vital when last year the world lost 10 million hectares of forest. Tropical primary forest loss was around 3.7 million hectares, or 10 football fields of forest per minute.
6. Protect Biodiversity: Forests are home to more than 80% of all terrestrial species of animals, plants and insects. Plus, the forests we support in Madagascar and Tanzania are critical biodiversity hotspots and home to a wide range of endemic and threatened plant and animal species.
7. Support Marine Health: In tropical regions such as Madagascar, mangroves anchor coastlines, and they also form a vital link between land and sea. In Tanzania, keeping soil on slopes reduces agricultural and sediment runoff threatens Lake Tanganyika’s sensitive fish breeding areas.
8. Accelerate Carbon Sequestration: Trees planted in tropical or subtropical regions generally sequester more CO2 than those planted in other locations. As the trees grow faster than in other regions, they release more biomass into the soil, thus sequestering higher volumes of CO2.
9. Advance Climate Resilience & Adaptation: Restoring vital ecosystems in Africa also helps to protect vulnerable communities from the worst impacts of land erosion, rising seas, flooding and extreme weather events. It is a cost-efficient, climate resilience strategy for both people and biodiversity.
10. Create a More Sustainable Future: You will receive a free, one-year subscription to a monthly educational series, Sustainable Solutions. It outlines all the best practices for a sustainable future, so you can reduce your future emissions with practical and low-carbon lifestyle choices.
