Purpose on the Planet supports improved livelihoods for vulnerable communities in Madagascar and Tanzania through large-scale tree planting and long-term forest conservation programs, in order to reduce the worst impacts of extreme poverty today and climate breakdown tomorrow. Since 2012, the community-based Recruit & Restore projects we support in Africa through the “ReWrite Our Story“initiative have provided an innovative path for transforming a spiral of poverty-based decline into a virtuous cycle of positive development instead.
Africa has one-fifth of the planet’s remaining forests but is losing them faster than anywhere else. Better protection and restoration of these forest landscapes could reduce or remove 1 billion tonnes of CO2 annually while helping hundreds of thousands of Africans earn a better living.
Recently, several members of our community have expressed a desire to be able to discern the level of humanitarian and environmental impact that they can make through modest DAF donations or more significant grants at our community-based projects in Madagascar and Tanzania. We have therefore developed the two practical programs below for anyone looking to donate by DAF and who would also like to understand the level of impact that can be made for both people and planet, based on the range of contribution that is being considered.

Every $20 that you donate by DAF to our ReWrite Our Story initiative will be directly used to:
RELIEVE POVERTY – Fund one full day of work and fair income for villagers living in extreme poverty
RESTORE NATURE – Plant and protect 45 mangroves or ficuses on your behalf at two project sites in Africa
REMOVE CO2 – Sequester around 1 metric ton of CO2 during an average maturation period
REDUCE EMISSIONS – Keep you informed the keys to a carbon-sensitive lifestyle through the complimentary monthly modules of our carbon-literacy certified series, Sustainable Solutions.
Also, if you wish to make a one-time contribution of $240, Purpose on the Planet will plant an additional 60 trees (for 600 in total), so that you can become “Climate Positive”, as a result of removing more CO2 from the air during a typical maturation period than will be emitted by the average US resident in 2026 (13.4 metric tons).
